Meet Emma Lowry!
If she was born 500 years earlier, Emma Lowry probably would have rubbed shoulders with other great sculptors like Michelangelo and Donatello. But lucky for us, she was born in the age of video games and joined HakJak Studios to help us make a full cast of amazing new characters, clothing, and other 3D assets that take a special blend of creative and technical skills to do well!
Emma got her start at Worcester Polytechnic Institute where she signed up for a gamedev major with no related experience except, well, playing games! She also loved to make traditional art and by the end of her Junior year, she realized that digital sculpting was her passion. She went into overdrive, cranking out cool new Zbrush sculpts left and right and honing her skills. By her Senior year, she was building out all of the characters for games like 7Swordsman, while simultaneously finishing her Senior project, Buried Voices, among other projects and freelance gigs.
Fresh outta college, Emma hit the ground running here at HakJak Studios and has blown us away with her amazing skills and passion for all things art and gaming! We’re super stoked to be working with her and can’t wait to see all of the wonderful things she’ll create.
When Emma’s not making digital masterpieces, she’s building real world stuff with her bare hands. This past summer, she taught herself how to forge things out of metal like a badass blacksmith. She also enjoys painting miniatures for D&D--a hobby she’s enjoyed playing since middle school, and building cool things out of foam for cosplays.
A never-ending fountain of creativity, Emma also enjoys writing from time-to-time, and has even had a short story published in a little New England-based science fiction anthology. Excellent!
Like the rest of us here at HakJak Studios, Emma is a gamer. Some of her favorites include Mount & Blade Warband, Skyrim, and Civ V. She also finds herself playing a lot of Dark Souls… but mostly to admire the epic character modeling.
Her gaming roots, however, go back to Minecraft and an old superhero MMO called ‘City of Heroes’--a favorite place she still revisits with friends for a nostalgic high and good times.
Emma works out of her home office in Massachusetts with her year-and-a-half old German Shepherd named Ripley (after the star of Alien, a family fave). If she’s AFK, she’s probably trying to keep Ripley from destroying something she shouldn’t… or chasing the chickens… or the cats. Down Ripley! Good girl.
