UI Sounds
I created some sounds to give player feedback when interacting with the User Interface in the game menus. My approach was to have the menu feel futuristic but also minimal.
But the really cool thing I think is this shuffling through tapes. I based the design off an old jukebox shuffling through record selections. And the tapes being inserted I based off old 8-tracks cartridges being inserted into a player. I think it adds a bit of retro feel mixing both analogue and digital sounds.
What do Pigeon Footsteps Sound Like?
You might have seen some past experimentation about the pigeon footsteps. I took that and made several terrain material types. While we still have some work to fully implement our footsteps into the game, we were able to put together a prototype in one of our test environments to sample each type of footstep sound. One cool technique I used was using the concrete footstep sounds, I ran those through a convolution reverb using an impulse response from a metal bowl to get those metallic sounding steps for the metal surface material.
